Does anyone here ccw a derringer? I may consider it once I get mine working and trust it. Maybe only as a backup, but I am thinking it would be nice. Mine is only a 22, but what about like 45 lc or 410. That would have more than enough "knockdown Power" wouldn't it? Billlau

I occassionally carry mine in an ankle holster as a back up. Not sure I would want it to be my primary having only two shots, but still two shots are better than none.
Here's my thinking on it and why I carry as a back up, if someone attacks me without warning, and they get me on the ground, I may have a better chance of drawing from the ankle vs. the waist.
I have been looking at the North American Arms 22mag revolvers as a back up too, again 22 is better than nothing!

I like the "quality" that drips off my Bond Arms .45 Colt only derringer so much that I carry it sometimes. Obviously not anyplace where I'd have any concern I might have to use it, but for neighborhood jaunts and errands . . . why not? My gun puts 225-grain Hornady FTX bullets out the front at 870 fps - that'll leave a mark. The gun is accurate enough that I believe I could target the vitals at defensive distances, and I have no doubt that the load would penetrate adequately to get the job done.

Erich, yes that sucker will leave a mark! Statistics have shown, the mere presence of a gun is often all it takes to difuss a situation, so I say carry whatever you are comfortable with. Sometimes it isn't always feasible to carry something larger.
As to your quality dripping Bond Arms, this is me sticking my tongue out at you!! LOL I know you got a heck of a deal and I am jealous, I will get one someday just have others on the list above it in that price range.

I'm a lawyer who's worked in some capacity on over 200 handgun killings - the things that stand out are that shot-placement and adequate penetration to hit the heart/aorta or brain/spinal cord are what are necessary to guarantee a stop of an aggressor. The abilities to accurately place shots and to adequately penetrate to the vitals are what seem non-negotiable. FWIW, my Ruger LCP with 7 rounds of Buffalo Bore 95-gr ".380+P" (yeah, I know that there's no such thing and that these are just flat overpressure) ball rounds that do 1100 fps from the little thing is the same size as the derringer, thinner, and weighs less than half as much. I'm sure that any one of those rounds would penetrate adequately, and the LCP is plenty accurate with them and a heck of a lot faster into action and on follow-up shots, but it sure doesn't bring the pride of ownership of the Bond.

I have a Bond Arms "Snake Charmer" in .45 Colt/.410 (3"). I use it primarily in Cowboy Action shooting for side matches, but I have, on occasion, carried it as a back up when out in the field loaded with .410 #7 shotshells.....I

I have a Bond Arms Snake Slayer with 45/410, 45 Colt, and 45 ACP barrels, a Davis 22lr, a Davis 38 Spl, and a Cobra 9mm. Will soon be ordering a Bond Arms Backup in 45ACP. Also have a NAA 22mag and a NAA 22mag Sidewinder, though they are, of course revolvers. I own many handguns from 22lr to 45 Colt and 45 ACP including Colts, Sigs, Rugers, S&W, Walthers, and Uberti. But I find myself carrying my Derringers quite regularly. I am a retired LEO, and have no concerns with Derringers for CCW. As for armed encounters, one is not LIKLEY to be involved in a multi opponet, many round exchange, so a two shot limitation is not likely to be a huge problem. As to their accuracy, most SD encounters are up close and personal and that is exactly what Derringers were designed for. YMMV! Cheers, Unkei

Since I posted earlier, I've gotten a .45 ACP barrel set for my Bond, and that's what I use most of the time. You'll like that back-up! Sent from my VS980 4G using proboards

Thanks for your reply erich, I think you will like the 45acp barrel. I carry that configuration most often with my Snake Slayer, and like it because the round is a bit more manageable recoil than the 45/420 or 45 Colt. I'm an old coot, and severe arthritis just makes this a better choice for me. Heck...I carry my NAA Sidewinder quite often for the same reason! Right now, I am carrying my Cobra 9mm for it's combination of adequate power and easier recoil than most. I was an LEO for 35 years, and carried a 9mm S&W 5906 for most of tht time after we went to semi-autos from wheel guns, so I am quite used to that round's recoil. I am looking forward to the Backup, as it will give me my preferred caliber in the acknowledged "built like a tank" relibility of any Bond Arms firearm! I have a MOSTLY adhered to 1 handgun a year policy, due to my many handguns! My dear wife will look the other way most of the time, but I do try to follow her wishes, as I have so many handguns, and can only carry so many at one time! LOL! But as I mentioned before, 2 rounds is enough for MOST instances. As for knowing where and when one might need more capacity, no one really knows! But after so many years as an LEO, I just don't feel under prepared with just 2 shots. Heck, if i knew I was going into battle, I'd want a fuuly automatic weapon and some grenades! But that's just not the reality most of us face each day! When the apocalypse arrives I may go that route, but not today! LOL! Cheers, Unkei

I carry my Bond Ranger all the time it has been a great ccw very low profile. Not to say that I haven carried my XD 40 but hell. No one want to get shot nor do they stick around if you do have to pull.
