Since many of us are familiar with the BJJA forum's annual "postal shoot," I would like to propose a "Broad Side of the Barn" match become an annual event for this forum. The goal: See who can hit a silhouette target of a barn's "broad side" from 7 yards with a Derringer. We could have large bore & small bore categories.

Now that would be a sweet idea. Were would such a proposed match take place? I think it would be fun.

We would either do it like the BJJA Postal Match, sending the targets to a even coordinator, who judges the targets using standard scoring procedures. The targets themselves are on the honor system. Another option is to ask folks use a local range and secure a witness signature. Others may even come up with better options.

Either way sounds good. Just to do something like that sounds fun. I have never participated in the bjja postal match. When does it take place?

This sounds like a fun contest. Heck, something to do. Never needed much of a reason to shoot. haha

It's a fun event with generous prizes from forum members. We should do thisonebin the spring or fall. My vote is October.

That does sound fun - my local range's closest distance is 10 yards, but I could always go out to the boonies and set up with a witnessed tape measure. I'm certain that 7 yards is a more reasonable distance than 10. How tiny do you think the barn should be? I'd note that my barrels are definitely regulated somewhat differently, so this would require some familiarity with one's gun to be competitive.

We use standard size paper, with the barn printed in landscape mode. Half the fun is learning to hit the target. Start at 3 yards to see where the round hits the paper, then work out to 7 yards.

So who would be the judges and where would our targets be sent? By Mail? Email?

Short version. Pick one person to judge. Contestants shoot a target and mail it to the judge with a nominal entry fee. Judge picks best score and awards top prize. Most prizes are donated by contestants and forum members and some may come from dealers and vendors. JEFF
